The ESO 3.6-metre telescope at ESO’s La Silla observatory. La Silla, in the southern part of the Atacama desert of Chile was ESO’s first observation site. The site is set 2400 metres above sea level, providing excellent observing conditions. ESO operates the 3.6-mere telescope, the New Technology Telescope (NTT), and the MPG/ESO2.2-metre telescope at La Silla.
